Unions and Community Sector Organisations to Mark the Cut to the Minimum Wage with Dáil Ceremony

A coalition of trade unions and community sector organisations will be holding a ceremony outside the gates of Dáil Éireann to publically mark February 1st, 2011, the day that the cut to the National Minimum Wage comes into effect, as a Day of Shame.

The organisations have joined forces to campaign for a reversal of the cut to the minimum wage and to protect Employment Regulation Orders (EROs) which have recently come under review.  The coalition includes SIPTU, MANDATE, Migrant Rights Centre Ireland, The Poor Can’t Pay Campaign, The Community Platform, UNITE and The National Women’s Council.

  • An actor impersonating James Larkin will read out  the Roll of Shame, the names of the TDs who voted in favour of the cut to the minimum wage

  • Playing of a lone piper

  • Giant pledge card asking politicians to commit to reverse the cut to the minimum wage and to protect Employment Regulation Orders.
