Petition to Save the Minimum Wage -Update

The vote to cut the minimum wage passed today Friday 10th December by a margin of 5 votes.  Over 7,000 signatures were collected in less than 72 hours which sends a very strong signal to all political parties that people are deeply concerned about protecting the incomes of the poorest workers in Ireland. We all know that this cut is  about ‘the race to the bottom’.  This has implications for social welfare rates and for other minimum rates of pay in sectors like cleaning and hotels. What we did this week was an important step in demonstrating support and action for a more equal society. Our voice was heard and we collectively showed leadership at a time of despair and disillusionment. All the opposition political parties have promised to reverse the cut.  There is real momentum now to keep working for this to become a reality.  This phase of the campaign may be over but we have lots of other goals to achieve. Please keep spreading the word and build support for Claiming Our Future.  The greater the numbers , the greater our strength and the greater the possibility we can make a real difference. Ask your friends, work colleagues and families to sign up to be part of the Claiming Our Future movement at our sign up page .  Here’s a video of protest on Thursday the 9th December outside the Dail.
